Do you remember the pattern I showed you the other day from our new collection? Well, today I want to talk about it and about the garments we´ve been working on. Our new collection is inspired on XIX century women such as Lizzie Siddal, Georgie Macdonald, Effie Gray, Jane Morris or Julia Prinsep (the mother of well-known Virginia Woolf). They were models, writers, painters, actresses,... and they also played a rol as muses of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Some of them were very present and active as artists like Jane Morris and Georgie MacDonald who worked making prints and embroideries at the Red House led by William Morris. They all shared the same original ideas about life and lived as outsiders in a very male society dominated by a very strict point of view and narrow traditions. All these women had this  atemporal beauty represented at the paintings by Dante Gabriel Rosseti, William Morris, John Everett Millais and Edward Burne Jones. This victorian epoque  has always fascinated me. I really love reading about it and like to imagine life at that time in a creative and magic community such as the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood . We don´t know much about these women. Some of them had a  tragic destiny. This is the case of  so beautiful Lizzie Siddal (the model of the famous Ophelia painting) who was married to Dante Gabriel Rosseti and died young after a life of sickness, adictions and depressions. When he burried her, he also burried the only copy of  his unpublished poems dedicated to her. The following two years he felt her and his poems haunting him at night and one day he decided to open up the tomb and recover his poems. The thing is that they found her untoched by time, uncorrupted by death and the whole coffin was full of her soft and bright ginger hair that had been growing after death...I´m not sure about the veracity of this "legend" but one thing is true: he eventually published all those poems. She was also a poet, her style was creppy and delicate but she did not published a word in life. Today we can still see some of her work  as a  painter at the walls of the Red House.
You can find out more about these misterious women who, in a way, lived in the shadows of the men at the Brotherhood. They were their wifes, lovers and muses, and they also helped them to carry out their work although it is quite difficult to determine this point. Their alternative way of life explains the way in which they experienced love in a very open and liberal manner, very odd for that time. It is quite famous the affair Jane Morris and Rossetti had while she was married to William Morris and it is also well known how John´s Ruskin wife, Effie, abandoned him to run into the arms of young painter John Everett Millais
Well, as you can see, this time our inspiration theme is dense and pasionated. This is the way in which we wanted to honour all these misterious women who were part of one of the most important european art movements. It is also a homage to all the women who had lived in the shadows. Thanks god we live now in a society were women can freely have their say and we can see them shine and leave a nice and non anonymus footprint.
Below you´ll see some pictures of these women and paintings that had inspired us. Soon we´ll show you how we´ve translated all of this into garments...

WOOD WEEKEND

We are already back from a nice weekend attending a workshop on wood carving at Angel Pisonero´s place in Salamanca. Not only did we learn many things about wood and tips on how to handle it, we had the chance to complitly disconnect  from the hussle of our ordinary lifes. It is nice to see how one can relax when focus on doing something crafty. Below you´ll see some pic from these good days we spent  learning new skills (the kiddos did also had a good time messing around playing with woods blocks and sawdust and painting). I also take the opportunity to invite you to have a look on one of my folders at pinterest full of amazing wooden stuff.
And by the way... on next post I´ll promise to finally reveal the inspiration theme of the collection we are about to launch... we are getting garments from our factories and all is looking great...
